I have done a different brand of Japanese hair straightening before. Can I still have YUKO hair straightening done?
- Is the previous hair straightening procedure uses the same chemical (Ammonium Thioglycolate) as YUKO straightening solutions?
- "Please contact both companies to make sure chemicals are the same" We will contact the company/manufacture to make sure the chemical is the same. We will do this for you, if you know the product that was used on your hair previously. Even if both use the same chemicals, the YUKO hair straightening process may not fully work if the hair is badly damaged already (which sometimes hair is over processed from previous services.
I have done a relaxer/Brazilian/Keratin treatment before. Can I still have YUKO hair straightening done?
- YUKO Straightening is a straight perm not a coating, therefore needs to penetrate into the hair shaft to re-structure the sulfate bonds in the cortex(inner layer/structure of the hair shaft). Additional, light steam press needs to be able to enter and release from the hair shaft.
- New hair growth will respond the best to YUKO.
- Any coating of relaxers/Brazilian/Keratin Treatments contain different chemicals that coat the outer layer of the hair shaft, preventing the straightener from entering the hair shaft and light steam press.
- We do not recommend getting YUKO hair straightening except on new growth root growth.
- Wait atleast 6 months until the Brazilian/Keratin Treatment coating is completely off your hair to get YUKO hair straightening.
- YUKO Straightening will be consulted and tested
Do I need to use special hair-care products after the YUKO treatment?
- YUKO offers home care products that will work optimally on hair that has been treated with YUKO hair straightening.
- Consultation, Tutorial of after care information and suggested products on daily hair care + simple styling.

How is YUKO Japanese hair straightening different from Brazilian/Keratin treatment methods?
- YUKO Japanese hair straightening permanently straightens hair by physically changing the internal structure of hair.
- Brazilian/Keratin treatment temporarily coats hair with keratin to smooth hair.
- Other Japanese Straightening or Thermal Straightenging may leave a coating. Please consult when + what product was used before scheduling
- Brazilian/Keratin treatments will wash out in average 3 months, so you must visit a salon often to re-coat the hair with this method.
- Brazilian/Keratin treatments may contain hazardous chemicals which release highly carcinogenic gas. Recently, California has banned certain ingredients. Washington Toxic Free Cosmetic Act, is reviewing such chemicals. For more information on the danger of chemicals, please check OSHA Safety and Regulations.
